My name is Hollee Mason.
I'm new to this industry but that's not to say I don't have the passion, knowledge and experience to make any event one to remember. Whether you just need advice, suppliers or want someone with you the whole step of the way, no event is too big or too small. You may have an idea of what you want your event to look like, or you may only have a concept such as 'modern' or 'traditional', I'm here to make your ideal a reality.
I am 20 years old, living, working and studying in Oxfordshire. I have known for many years that Events are my passion, from planning the School Prom to organising a suprise party for my fathers birthday. It's not only the exciting and creative aspects of events planning I love, I'm also a keen business woman who has studyed Business and Economics to give me a well rounded knowledge; from colour schemes to budgeting.
I have 9 A-C grade GCSE's as well as 3 A Levels and I am currently studying for my Legal Secretary Diploma.
- The Black Horse Charity Music Festival -
I was an employee of the Black Horse public house at the time when the idea came about to throw a mini-music festival. The assistant manager, knowing my passion for events, asked me to aid her in the initial planning stages.
We did relentless research, going to open-mic nights to browse the talent available. We had to contact the charity, Children in Touch, to request promotional materials and get them on board with the event.
Then there was the practicalities; how many acts would we need to fill three whole days? Was it possible to get gas pumps in order to have a fully functioning outside bar? How could we sell the wristbands to promote the event?
We held the event on the first weekend in August 2009, it was a roaring success. We had over 50 live acts, inside and outside, and we made over £1000 for the charity. It is now going to be an annual event.
-ILEX Legal Secretary Charity Christmas Party-
As part of the Legal Secretary course I am currently studying for, we had to organise a Christmas Charity event for 'Save the Children' and 'Friends of Kennington Cancer Fund'.
The event occured on Friday 4th December 2009. There are 20 students in our Diploma class. We were all split into sub-catagories. As my class-mates are aware that I am also currently studying on my QC Events Planning course, they asked me to oversee all committees. I primarily focussed on helping the Funding Committee. We were determined to hold a raffle even though we had no budget for prizes, and so we set out to contact all of the local businesses asking for gifts or vouchers, anything that we could use as a prize, and we got fantastic support.
We were given a £300 budget to plan the whole event. We knew this wouldn't stretch far enough and so we decided we would need to sell tickets, at £10 and a room booked for 70 people we knew we would have an income of approximately £700. We contacted the new Oxford Conference Centre to see if they were able to give us a discount on room hire. Fortunately, they did. We had ourselves a fantastic venue with a presentation room and a dance room with a hot buffet to be provided on the night. However, the cost of the food was to be £1,200. This didn't dampen our spirits. We sold hundreds of raffle tickets at £1 per strip and soon we had achieved our goal of breaking even.
The event was fantastically successful with both charities being overwhelmed by the generosity and support of Oxfordshire students. The main purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the two charities, but an added bonus was being able to award them both with a cheque for £100 each at the end of the event.
