Visual Merchandising and Fashion Merchandising is the branch of retail design which focuses in the design of retail stores. Visual merchandising supports retail sales by creating environments to further maximize growth, opportunity, educate customers, and easily stretch brand image.
Visual merchandising is the practice in the retail industry of developing floor plans and three-dimensional displays in order to maximize sales.
Both goods and services can be displayed to highlight their features and benefits. The purpose of such visual merchandising is to attract, engage, and motivate the customer towards making a purchase. Visual merchandising commonly occurs in retail spaces such as stores.
A Fashion merchandising is in charge of the visual merchandising of a retail store. A Fashion Merchandising is a profession that incorporates the A-to-Z processes in the fashion business ranging from producing, product development, promoting and buying and selling fashion items such as clothing, accessories, jewelry, cosmetics and shoes.
A fashion merchandiser may work for a textile manufacturer, a designer or a fashion retail outlet such as a department store, children’s clothing store or a discount store.
Depending on which industry a fashion merchandiser works in, the job titles associated with this field include fashion buyers, fashion directors, retail store managers, textile merchandisers, designers, showroom sales representatives, product development managers, catalog production managers and merchandise display artists.
