My name is Janice Mills and owner of [b[All About Clutter. I am not new to clutter or organizing. Growing up in a family of seven, it was my job to clean the house and deal with the stuff that had accumulated over the week. I found that I enjoyed keeping things organized and still do. Fortunately, my husband loves to be organized too. We have gone through all of the stages as a couple: first apartment, babies (we have two grown children), kids, sports, homework, moving out, moving back, moving house and now we’re empty nesters (Whew!). I know all too well with how easily things arrive or at the office and how it accumulates over time.
Recently retired from working with students at a local college, I knew I wanted to continue helping people. But how? I get excited when I see something that needs to be organized, so professional organizing is a logical new career path for me. Many of the skills I developed as an educator and passed along to my adult students are, in fact, essential tools for a professional organizer. I am task and process oriented, and I enjoy problem-solving. I will take the time to listen, so that I can help you determine your needs and goals. It is incredibly satisfying to assist people and see the results of a well-organized and clutter-free home.
I am a member of the Professional Organizers in Canada (Edmonton Chapter) and am finishing the POC training program. I have successfully completed the Professional Organizing training program offered by QC Design School.
Clutter happens to all of us and I congratulate you on making the decision to do something about it! I am happy to share what I have learned about becoming more organized.
Your privacy is important to me; all of your information is kept confidential.
People at all stages of life can benefit from the assistance of a Professional Organizer. You may be on your own for the first time, a young couple with a baby, a growing family, empty nesters or a senior. Regardless of your age and stage, you may find that at this point in your life you need to bring order back to your space.
Many of us don’t know where to start, or feel overwhelmed by the task at hand, or simply need some suggestions and support as they move forward on their own. A clear and non-judgmental approach and some organizational “know how” may be all you need to take control of your home again. I am able to guide you through the organizing process and together we will be able to create a blueprint that is designed to meet your specific needs and is easy to maintain. I will ensure that you know what you have; you know where it is; and that you are able to lay your hands on it using simple organization and storage solutions.[i/]
No space is too big or small. I am able to provide simple and efficient ideas about de-cluttering any space in your home.
• Bedrooms and offices
• Garages and storage rooms
• Closets and pantries
• Kitchens, dining and living spaces
Once you make the decision to organize your home, the first step is the consultation.
The consultation takes approximately one hour and is a free service. It is an opportunity to meet to determine the scope of your project. The consultation is an opportunity for us to meet and determine how we can work together. The organizing sessions can be exhausting, both physically and emotionally. Therefore, it is important that you feel comfortable with your organizer.
The assessment involves:
• Walking through the space
• Identifying your current issues and how they are affecting you
• Evaluating current storage, furniture placement and workflow
• Discussing your vision and goals for your space
• Determining the scope of the project
• Discussing the budget
Hands On Organizing Session[b/]
A typical session can last from 3 to 6 hours, depending on how fast we work together and how much there is to do. Some clients need more than one session either because of the size of the project or because of the emotional attachment to personal items. During the process, we’ll talk about the sustainable systems than can be implemented to meet your specific desires and challenges. Our goal is to ensure that you enjoy your home and have the time to do the things you love!
Once decisions have been made about what to keep, it is necessary to design a functional and attractive space that is tailored to your individual needs. The layout will allow you to be better organized and more efficient.
You decide what to keep or give away! At the end of the session, materials to be recycled or donated can be removed and delivered to an organization of your choice.
To make your space function to its maximum efficiency, new storage solutions may be required. To save time and money, I can source and purchase the required items for you. (I love looking for just the right thing). Of course, we’ll use any existing storage solutions already in your home and make sure they function in your newly-organized space.
It doesn’t take long for clutter to begin to accumulate again. I will leave you with some simple guidelines for maintaining your clutter-free new space. But, I know clutter happens! A maintenance session can be scheduled to help you stay on track or tweak something that isn’t quite working for you.
