Selling your home faster, for more money, with less stress…just makes $en$e.

My name is Wanda Bullerwell and I've lived and worked in Kingston, Nova Scotia, for almost 20 years, after moving from the Annapolis Royal area, where I was born and lived until that time. I'm currently working at 14 Wing Greenwood as a clerk but I have worked at a local law firm in the past as well. I enjoy my job but was looking for something more creative, and in my research I discovered home staging and knew that it would be a perfect fit for me. I don’t like clutter and disorganization and have a great sense and flair for renovating and decorating. That combined with my excellent people skills will give me the cutting edge now that I'm opening up a new home staging and redesign business in the area, calling it Makes Sense Home Staging and Redesign.

For as long as I can remember I have been interested in reorganizing, rearranging furniture, designing and renovating spaces, etc. I dreamed of becoming an interior designer/decorator but never followed through on it. When I recently contemplated a change in career and started doing some research, home staging seemed like a perfect fit for me. People have always commented on how much they love my home and what we have done to it and how it is decorated, so I know I will enjoy transforming other people’s homes into something they will love and appreciate, and my husband will be happy that my passion is appeased at someone else’s expense. With my pleasant personality and great people skills, along with my desire to help people get the most of their homes regardless of whether they are selling or staying, I feel I can make a huge difference in people’s lives. I look forward to having this opportunity to use my creative skills while meeting and dealing with interesting people.
I have a bad case of OCD when it comes to clutter and disorganization. When I’m surfing Kijiji for items, I won’t even take a second look if there is a mess surrounding the item for sale. To me, that just tells me that they don’t look after anything so I wouldn’t purchase from them. The same principle applies for homes – buyers are totally distracted by clutter and mess. It’s important to make your home look like it’s been taken care of, is neat and tidy, and in good repair. You want it to appear bright, spacious, and inviting and I pledge to do my best to help you with all these issues. I will work meticulously and tirelessly to bring you the desired results, whether you are selling your property or creating your dream home.

Services

Makes Sense Home Staging can help you save time, money, and stress by offering the following services:

• De-cluttering and Organizing
Clutter and personal items hinder the buyer’s ability to picture themselves living in your home. It is important to put away the knick knacks and family photos and replace them with neutral decorations. Remember that “less is more”. Even if you aren’t selling but still want assistance with de-cluttering and organizing, we can help you with your closets, cabinets, or rooms by either working hands-on or by giving you tips and recommending products and storage solutions to optimize the job.

• Redesign
Interior redesign is similar to interior decorating but there is less emphasis on adding or purchasing new elements to the room (such as furniture, window treatments, flooring, etc.). Instead, we will take advantage of clients’ existing belongings and reduce, reuse, recycle, and repurpose wherever possible. This plan allows us to bring new life to old spaces using our cost effective ideas and services while helping out the environment.

We can also redesign the space of clients wishing to remain in their homes, allowing it to be more functional and enjoyable. Whether it is major renovations or just refreshing your space that you desire, we can help. Stage and sell or redesign and stay – either way makes sense. By listening and responding to the varying needs of the customers, we can make their lives less stressful and more carefree. Let us take your tired room and make it a space that will make you smile every time you walk in.

• Staging/Showcasing
Staging or showcasing is dressing the house for sale. It is about making the house appear bigger, brighter, cleaner, warmer, and more importantly, making the home buyer want to purchase it. It is the final touches that make your house stand out from the rest.

• Renovations, Repairs, and Upgrades
We can evaluate your home and tell you what repairs or updates will bring you the highest return on investment and make your home more saleable. If you wish, we will liaise with local contractors to get this work done in a timely manner with as little stress as possible on the homeowners.

• Property Transformations (inside and out)
You essentially have to sell your home to a potential buyer three times. Once is through the online pictures (MLS), once when they drive by the property, and once they come inside for a viewing. If they don’t like what they see on the outside, they won’t bother booking that viewing, so it is extremely important to have great curb appeal.
Buyers will form an opinion on a home (while looking at the MLS pictures) in the first 90 seconds and will only spend 6 minutes looking at it. This is your opportunity to transform your home into one that will make them want to look further. If your home displays good curb appeal, you are well on your way to getting it sold. Once they are inside, you want to give them that WOW factor and make them feel like this house is a perfect fit and make them want to put an offer on it.

• Designing Room Layouts
Furniture arrangement is one of the most vital elements of the design process. It should enhance the architectural features, draw attention to the room’s best characteristics, be balanced and unified, have good traffic flow, and create a conversation area. It can generate interest, variety, and drama in a room. Let us help you bring out the best in your rooms.

• Decorating
This involves helping clients with an extensive assortment of items including furniture, wall coverings, window treatments, bedding, upholstery, paint, flooring, rugs, lighting, and complete remodeling projects. We have contacts with a variety of specialty contractors that can assist with these items.

• Color Consultation
Color is one of the most effective tools for altering the physical appearance of a room without having to use a hammer and nails. Colors have the ability to change our perception of space and it can influence our mental state. They can make a room brighter or darker, warmer or cooler, and larger or smaller. Let us help you choose the colors that will best suit your space and purpose.

• Shopping Service
We can recommend items and the stores where you can purchase them, we can go shopping with you to help you make that ultimate purchase, or we can save you valuable time by doing the legwork for you and going to the stores and either making the purchase or selecting a few items to make it easier for you to go in and make the final decision.
